VCT 4 – Rules and Regulations
- All games to be played in the tournament will be 15| 10 Rapid rated games on chess.com.
- Choice of White or Black pieces for the players is determined upfront for every match in VCT 4. This is to ensure that every player can play same number of matches (3 each) in both the colors. At the start of the match if the players are allocated differently to what is in schedule, the match needs to be abandoned and a fresh match request needs to be sent. There will be no change in a player's chess.com rating if a match is abandoned.
- Seeding of players is done as a part of the registration process for the VCT 4 Auction. Chess.com ratings of the players in the mentioned time period is considered for seeding : 14/03/2021 - 17/03/2021.
- 4 Clans of 6 players each will be formed for VCT 4 in the Auction.
- Post Auction, the Clan Leaders will submit the final Clan details with the players of their respective Clans ranked from 1 - 6 for the matches.
- Rank 1 - 2 will form Tier 1 (should have Auction List 1 player)
- Rank 3 - 4 will form Tier 2
- Rank 5 - 6 will form Tier 3 (should be same as Auction List 3)
- Players from each Clan will play with players from other Clans of similar Tier. Please see the Tournament Format for more details.
- The Clan with the most points at the end of the last match will be the winner of VCT 4.
- The prize money will be transferred to the Clan Leads. It will be the responsibility of Clan Leads to distribute the prize money to all the Clan members or take any other actions as decided within the Clan. Auxiliary prize money will be sent directly to the winners.
- At the end of the last Gameweek 6, if there is a tie for the 1st or 2nd place between the Clans, tie breaker matches will be played between 3 players from each Clan. Tie breaker rules are given below.
- In case 3 clans end at same point, then knockout matches will be played between 3 players (1 from each clan) between the 3 clans, i,e total 9 matches. In such a condition, VCT Committee will publish the knockout format after Gameweek 6 is concluded.
- Points accumulated in the tournament matches– Win - 2, Draw – 1, Loss – 0.
- Walkover is allowed. The player getting the walkover will get full 2 points. The accuracy in that match won’t be counted for both the players.
- Game timings – The matches for each Gameweek will be published upfront in the match schedule and in the Whatsapp group by the Coordinators. Players can mutually agree on a time for that match within that Gameweek. Matches can be preponed or postponed by a day, if mutually agreed between the players. Please note, if there is a ‘no show’ from any player (15 minutes waiting period) on a mutually agreed timeslot, the opponent player gets the walkover.
- One of the many good things about VCT is that the schedule is flexible. If you have other priority work or facing any odd circumstances, please inform the Coordinators upfront, and they will do a reasonable rearrangement.
- If there is a network issue, then chess.com will automatically consider the other player as the winner. The player who lost the match (who suffered network disruption) can appeal to the Coordinators for a rematch. Coordinators will review the last position and other factors to decide and confirm if a rematch can be granted to the player or not.
- If anyone is suspected and then caught in unfair practices, like cheating in any form, using engines, or impersonating for others, he/she will be banned from the current and all future tournaments of VCT. VCT committee is very much driven to establish fair play in the tournaments.
- Auction of the 24 players in VCT 4 Clans will be done on a public forum so that all players can see and experience the same. Details will be published soon.
- In case of any dispute, the decision of VCT 3 committee will be final.
Tie beaker rules :
- The 3 players for tie breaker will be chosen by the Clan Leads, with condition that there should be one player from each tier. The names to be submitted to Coordinator Matcho by 6th May
- In tie breaker matches, players of same tier will play against each other. Color selection (black or white) in the tie breaker matches will be random and as allocated by chess.com automatically at the start of the match. The colors selected automatically at the first attempt will be the 'final' color each player has to play. In case of network interruptions, if the first game gets aborted, the players again have to play in the final color that was chosen at the first attempt.
- Tie breaker matches needs to be played on Saturday (exempted only under special cases, to be considered by Coordinators), to keep Sunday in buffer for another round of tie breaker match(s) if required.
- After all 3 Tie breaker matches, if the two Clans still are on same points, that can happen in these two conditions -
- if there is 1 draw and one win for each clan - the players who had drawn in the 1st tie breaker needs to play a second match. color chosen automatically by chess.com and the color rule on point 2 above is valid here as well.
- 3 draw matches - In this case all 3 matches again needs to be played. Here the Clan leads have an option to substitute a player from same tier in that Clan.
